Hommage à John Cassavetes, based on a text by Orsolya Karafiáth and the company’s improvisations

“The story of a marriage that has fallen apart. Snapshots of two paths of escape that may shed light on the mistakes we’ve made against one another. Why do we so often fail when we try to draw closer to one another?” Orsolya Karafiáth

The performance sensitively explores the fragility of human relationships, the difficulties of communication, and the mistakes we make against one another.

What happens when we no longer see the same thing in each other? When our gazes avoid one another, and the unspoken sentences become louder than any spoken word? Through the story of a crumbling marriage and two intertwined love stories, Trojka’s performance guides us through the labyrinth of desire, loss, fear, and new beginnings. It is a journey into the depths of our human relationships that is at once painfully familiar and liberatingly honest. Based on a text by Orsolya Karafiáth and the company’s improvisations, and evoking the spirit of John Cassavetes, this unique, intimate performance was created so that the audience member is not merely an observer but almost becomes a participant in the story.

The performance approaches relationship crises with humor, while speaking candidly about the difficulties of relationships. The balance between lighter and deeper moments offers both entertainment and a mirror for self-reflection. Its central question is: Why do we so often fail on the path toward one another?

"This performance is about being brave, being strong, and being imperfect—it didn’t want to measure things out to the last detail. Because it’s about being seen… Móni Balsai is one of the greatest of her generation, and it’s surely no coincidence that she’s taking on more and more alternative and small-scale theater productions, even though I think she could be a standout figure at the major theaters as well. The others—Petra Ténai, Dóra Nagy, Péter Bárnai, and János Hajnal—are also wonderful fellow actors in this production. Because here, they’re fellow actors. Through thick and thin...” Hajnalka Pajer
