Trip-hop legend Tricky returns to Budapest

Tricky is one of the most innovative and influential artists of recent decades, a pioneer of the trip-hop genre who channels his dark experiences into his music. Tricky returns to the stage in 2026 with a newly created show, which he will bring to Budapest on June 9 at the A38 Ship.

Tricky, aka Adrian Nicholas Matthews Thaws, was born and raised in Bristol. Music ultimately provided an escape from his difficult childhood: he started out in the Wild Bunch, which later evolved into Massive Attack, on whose debut album Tricky also left his mark. He soon left the band to pursue a solo career, releasing his debut album in 1995.

From the very beginning, Tricky was a defining figure in Bristol’s underground scene and a pioneer of the trip-hop genre. His songs are imbued with a kind of dark atmosphere due to his past. Tricky has released 14 studio albums to date, the most recent being *Fall To Pieces* in 2020. Throughout his career, he has collaborated with artists such as Terry Hall, Björk, Gravediggaz, Alanis Morissette, Grace Jones, and PJ Harvey.

His artistic talent is undeniable; David Bowie himself was among his fans, praising Tricky’s unique perspective and fearless creativity.

Location

A38 Ship

Converted from a coal-mining ship, the A38 is easily Budapest's most unique concert venue. The belly of the ship has been home to a wide range of live and electronic music for almost 20 years, and when it's full you can feel the rhythmic movement of the partygoers making waves in the Danube. Foreign acts often refer to it afterwards as their favourite club.
