F.R.E.W (Folk Roots Electro Wings) | Montanaro – Borbély – Zlatanos (FR/HU/GR)

Formed in 2023, the music of the F.R.E.W. duo is rooted in folk, yet they explore these familiar-sounding themes by extending them into the realm of electronic music and relying on improvisation. Two musical worlds converge in the ensemble: the Occitan-born musician, composer, and poet, Miquèu Montanaro, who wanders through not only musical collaborations but also the realms of dance, theater, and film with flutes, accordions, and saxophones in hand, and the Greek musician, composer, and sound designer Vasilis Zlatanos, who focuses on blending acoustic and electronic elements. In the second half of the concert, Mihály Borbély will join them; he began his journey into jazz and improvisational music with the ensemble Vents d’Est, led by Montanaro. First, we will hear an improvisational dialogue between the wind instruments, and then Zlatanos will complement this conversation with electronics.
