Taraf de Akácfa
The captivating energy of Romanian lăutărească, Transylvanian and Balkan folk music

Schedule
This programme is held in Hungarian.
Taraf de Akácfa was formed in 2014 in Budapest, when travelling street musicians met in an international community house on Akácfa Street. The founding members of the band came from the United States, Sweden, Hungary and France, and decided to stay in Budapest, where they found continuous musical inspiration and could share their common passion for Eastern European and Balkan folk music.
Their musical repertoire is primarily based on the Romanian lăutărească tradition, as well as Moldavian and Transylvanian folk music, but they also play folk music from other parts of the Balkans. Although the band’s lineup has changed over the years and most of the members are now native Hungarian speakers, one thing has remained constant: their shared curiosity and enthusiasm for this multifaceted, dynamically rich world of traditional music.
The members of Taraf de Akácfa combine their diverse musical and cultural backgrounds while tastefully connecting different folk music styles with innovative ideas and arrangements.
