Hirajama works in Tokyo, cleaning restrooms for a living. He seems content with his simple, harmonious, and uneventful life, finding joy in life’s small wonders. He devotes his free time to his passion for music and books; he is also an avid lover of trees, which he cares for tenderly and constantly photographs. Through a series of unexpected encounters, more and more details about his past gradually come to light.
Wim Wenders’ film premiered in the competition program at the Cannes Film Festival, where its lead actor, Kojin Jakuso, was awarded the prize for Best Actor. The film also won the Ecumenical Jury Prize.
