ONE, TWO, THREE… and! CHILDREN’S DAY—LET’S CREATE WORLDS!

2026-05-30T08:30:00.000Z

This year’s Children’s Day takes its inspiration from the theme of our exhibition *Black Mirror: The Long Shadow of the Future*. On this year’s Children’s Day, we’ll create details of unique worlds. We’ll explore selected works from our current exhibitions for inspiration. This way, we can imagine what might hatch from an egg—if not the creatures we’re used to. We’ll ponder who might watch over us from the gables of buildings instead of angels. What would that fantasy city look like if we were the ones to create its buildings and streets, and so on… On this day, we can boldly let our imaginations run wild! The program takes place across three floors of the Ludwig Museum, at six different designated locations. We also welcome families raising children with learning difficulties (those with Down syndrome, autism, born with oxygen deprivation, etc.) to join us for this day.

Please let us know if you plan to attend by emailing [email protected]!

DETAILED SCHEDULE

Between 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

SESSION 1

What hatches from an egg? – We know many animals that hatch from eggs. Think of birds, spiders, reptiles, etc… But what would a creature be like that exists only in your imagination, and you think it also sees the world by peeking out of an eggshell?

Location: 1st-floor exhibition space

Who watches over you instead of angels? – Let’s imagine that we live in another world where we don’t know angels, but we have other helpers and guardians. How would you picture this personal helper? Would it resemble a human, an animal, or a plant? Would it have a body, or would we perceive it only as a breeze? What colors would it appear in? Now we ask you to create this special being who helps you, comforts you, and watches over you!

Location: 1st-floor exhibition space

TWO

Flowers from Another Galaxy – During spring, many familiar flowers bloom one after another. Now we will explore flowers found in a contemporary museum—strange, cold, colorless, and made of various metals. They look as if they were plants from another planet. During the workshop, we’ll explore real plants with very unusual appearances, observe how plants are depicted in classical art, and then delve into the astonishing world of Surrealism and its still lifes, so that in the end we too can create our own unique, three-dimensional flowers that don’t exist on Earth.

Location: 2nd-floor museum education studio

Fantasy City – Cities come in many forms. Some were built long ago and are full of historic buildings, while others consist almost entirely of new structures. We can travel to see the ruins of ancient civilizations’ surviving cities, but we can also see hypermodern buildings on a journey. Now we’re building a shared fantasy city where everyone can place their own building or street scene—something they’ve imagined that’s completely detached from everyday life.

Location: 2nd-floor exhibition space

Celestial Phenomena – There are many different phenomena in the clouds that meteorologists know very well. These phenomena are often interesting, surprising, or simply amazing! Now let’s invent our own celestial phenomena that we’ve never seen before. They could be green cube-shaped clouds, purple mists, or a checkered moon. What image comes to mind when you imagine the celestial phenomena of a new world?

Location: 2nd-floor exhibition space

The Ever-Bearing Garden – Everyone can create a small garden where the plants that grow are varieties that can survive anything and bear fruit abundantly. But what does it take? You can demonstrate this in the small garden you create, showing what these plants are like and what is needed for them to bear fruit abundantly and grow lushly!

Location: 3rd floor exhibition space

The ticket price for the Family Morning program is 1,200 HUF per person.

Free for people with communication difficulties and their companions.
