Marcell Szirmai, a rapper from Szeged, brought the renaissance of Hungarian old school rap in the early 2020s. He is on the border between old and new line rap. His songs often feature classical music elements.
In 2022, a clip of a song called Zártklasse (Closed Class) spread like wildfire among hip hop fans, in which a guy called Pogány Induló, who looks like a high school student with the best of intentions, sends out old school rap in a way that belies his elders.
Almost two years to the day after the release of the clip, the winds have changed, Pogány has become a practically A-list artist, swapping the stages of the Centre and the Gólya for the Akvárium and then the Barba Negra, and in early March he played a solo show at the MVM Dome.
