In the new music education series of the House of Music 2024, the World Village - Music Free Evening, Balázs Weyer, the programme director of Hangvető, will give lectures on a specific global music topic, always with one or two invited musicians. The second evening will focus on Argentinean tango, with the bandoneón, an accordion-like instrument of German origin, as the instrument, which has become world famous in Argentinean tango and in the works of Astor Piazzolla.

Guest musicians Eszter Vörös and János Másik can be heard and heard - and of course the instrument will also be played during the evening.

◖ Eszter Vörös ◗

Eszter Vörös, after years of independent study on the bandoneon (since there is still no teacher of the instrument in the region) and being a member of the Pest Tango Orchestra, has been training and continues to train since 2014 at the master classes and diploma course of Victor Hugo Villena, world famous and considered among the best of his age, and at the classes of Omar Massa, one of Piazzolla's best known interpreters. He has played with Ensemble Hyperion, considered one of the best tango ensembles in Europe, in European cities and is featured on their album "Remembranzas", recorded during the tour. He has played as soloist with the Egri Symphony Orchestra and was invited by Iván Fischer to perform as soloist in the opening piece of the 2016 concert TérTánc. In 2017, he was a guest at János Másik's composer evening, where he also tried his hand at rock music. In 2018, he was a guest at the Budapest gala concert of Erwin Schrott, the world-famous Uruguayan opera singer.

In 2019, he was guest soloist at the Budapest Strings' all-night concert, where he performed, among other works, János Másik's bandoneon concerto written for the occasion (Fantasias for bandoneon and string orchestra). He has performed the work several times since then, notably during their permanent joint programme with the Budapest Strings, as part of a concert with János Másik. In 2022, he participated as soloist in a performance of the Argentine composer Martin Palmeri's Misa a Buenos Aires (Misa a Buenos Aires) with the Vác Civitas Symphony Orchestra and the Vox Humana choir, with the composer himself on piano, Gabriella Busa singing and Bence Sándor conducting. In May 2023, he performed with the world-famous opera singer Luciana Mancini at the Theater and der Wien in Vienna, performing a piece from Piazzolla's opera with the world-famous opera singer Luciana Mancini. With her own orchestra, Puerto Tango, they perform authentic Argentine tango, works by Astor Piazzolla and other contemporary tango works.

János Másik, composer, singer, performer - main instruments: bandoneón, piano, guitar, percussion. He studied at the conservatory in Győr and then continued his studies at the jazz department of the Bartók Béla Music School in Budapest. He was a member of the Interbrass band, which won the jazz category of the 1972 talent contest "Who knows?", and later for many years he was the musical director of the band. In 1976 he graduated as a teacher at the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music, where he studied with László Dobszay (folk music, solfege) and Imre Földes (music history). He was a participant in the Budapest TV concert of Gábor Szabó, the world-famous American-Hungarian jazz guitarist, in 1974 and 1977. In 1975, together with Tamás Cseh and Géza Bereményi, he wrote and performed the performance "Letter to my sister", which was recorded. The trio also made two other theatre and recording productions together, Letter to my Sister 2 (1994) and True Letter to my Sister (2001).

In 1976, he taught improvisation techniques and 20th century music analysis at the jazz department of the Béla Bartók Music School. Since 1977 he has toured Western Europe as a member of the Kőszegi Group, in the company of Imre Kőszegi, Tony Lakatos, Péter Dandó, Gyula Babos, Ferenc Tornóczky and other well-known musicians. In the 1980s, he composed music for two theatre plays, including Ivan Kušan's Galóca, which was performed at the Katona József Theatre, with lyrics and a translation by György Spiró. In 1987 he founded the Trance Balance band, one of the most important representatives of world music in Hungary. The band's recordings have been rediscovered by the international DJ community and are popular with collectors. In 2022, they were released on vinyl by a London-based label (Foam on the Wave). From the early 1980s, his interest turned to the underground, recording with the Trabant band and touring with the Balaton and Europa label bands. In 1998, he produced the album Peepshow heaven, based largely on lyrics by István Bálint. During the same years he composed music for several Hungarian and Western European films. A non-exhaustive list. Since the 2000s, he has been performing with the János Másik Heart Rock Company, singing his songs and occasionally reading from his poetry at solo evenings. In 2019, he wrote a competition piece for bandoneon and strings for Eszter Vörös and the Budapest Strings Orchestra, entitled 'Fantasias for bandoneon and string orchestra'.
