JAP: HAJNALI ÉN-EK

2024-08-23T18:00:00.000Z

Is it "appropriate" to mix old, written music with contemporary music and improvisation? Is it possible to create a real link between different styles and eras? Is there interoperability? In this concert, the JAP orchestra weaves improvisation around excerpts from Baroque and Renaissance works. In their arrangements, they play music composed hundreds of years ago and then, while retaining their intrinsic cohesiveness, they add free improvisation to the layers that emerge from the skeleton. These contemporary reflections are by no means alien to the old: improvisation was a dominant element of Baroque and Renaissance performance art, which at that time was not so different from written music because of the existence of a uniform musical vernacular. Even so, there were some excellent composers who were already considered pioneers, such as John Dowland, whose songs are featured prominently in the concert. Dowland was one of the most famous musicians of his time - a pop star, so to speak - and his songs were written for the young people and amateur musicians of the stately homes.

Schedule

JAP was originally founded by Orsolya Juhász, Péter Ajtai and Áron Porteleki. Classical, jazz and folk music are closely intertwined in their joint art. Although they started from different directions, they all study and search for how music of different styles and eras can be connected both in content and form. On this evening, Attila Gyárfás will play percussion and Boglárka Szűcs will complete the ensemble on bass violin.

Location

House of Music Hungary

A music education centre and concert venue in the heart of the City Park, behind the airy futuristic glass facade of Japanese architect Sou Fujimoto.
