Nosferatu (1922)
Soundtrack for silent film

Schedule
More than a hundred years ago, one of the most influential silent films of all time, Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau's Nosferatu, eine Symphonie der Grauens, was released. The original horror film was written in the form of a five-act stage musical, for which Hans Erdmann originally composed the symphonic incidental music.
The restored copy of the film is now accompanied by a special oratorio soundtrack, which combines the world of late Renaissance madrigals with Gregorian melodies from the 17th Psalm and a prayer against the plague, using contemporary electronic music.
The performance will also include excerpts from the extravagant madrigals of Hans Leo Hassler, Luca Marenzio, Henry Purcell, Josquin des Prez, Clemens non Papa, Cristóbal de Morales, Heinrich Isaac, Orlando di Lasso and, above all, the mysterious Carlo Gesualdo, whose dark, chromatic tone and lyrics take on a strange new meaning in the course of the Dracula story.
