Stargate, Star Wars!
Tonight, the force will be with us as we embark on an interstellar journey through the Milky Way's most beautiful summer clusters and gas nebulae! The characters from the Star Wars movies come to life. We'll investigate whether there really could be a double sunset on the planet Tatooine and what Han Solo would see in the window of the Millennium Falcon if he were to make a hyperspace jump. And we battle the monsters of the constellations with a sky-high green Jedi lightsaber even longer than Skywalker's!

Schedule
Stargate: at our big astronomy event, the Svábhegy Observatory's programme sites are free to visit at your own pace. It's worth buying tickets online in advance, but you can always buy tickets on site.
Programmes:
Daytime and twilight astronomy:
Solar observation: use solar telescopes to examine groups of dark sunspots, fountain-like solar flares and bright, lacy solar flares in different colours.
Moon crescent: the really thin, graceful, two-day moon crescent can be admired at any of our observing sites. With a phase of just 5%, its crescent moon is a play of craters.
Mars: in the Budapest dome, we will visit the tiny red disk of Mars, now very far from Earth, to observe its dance in the telescope giant.
Interactive astronomy programmes
Star Wars - Fantasy or reality? We embark on an exciting investigative exploration of the frontiers of science and science fiction! Can the futuristic technical solutions seen in Star Wars really be created, or are they just a figment of your imagination? What does modern science have to say?
Meteorite testing - get your hands on rocks from space!
Spectrum Zone - light experiments in every colour of the rainbow
Planet Sniffing Lab - get ready for a sniff!
Comet cooking - cook up a smouldering comet nucleus
Bubble Universe - giant colourful bubbles and their astronomical bond
Space-time trampoline - orbit the planets around the Sun!
Telescope Tricks - disassemble, cut in half, look inside, focus...
Night observation with binoculars
The most beautiful double stars of the summer sky in the darkening sky: Albireo, Double Double, Izar, Acrab...
Hook-Captain Cluster, Shoulder Tree, M12, M13, M25
The most beautiful gas nebulae of the Summer Milky Way: Lagoon Nebula, Swan Nebula, Eagle Nebula
Cosmic gas bubbles of planetary nebulae: Ring Nebula
A laser constellation tour among the constellations of the summer sky!
In case of cloudy weather: our Stargate event will take place regardless of the weather, and our interactive programme sites are always accessible. In cloudy weather, instead of observing celestial bodies through binoculars, we offer a dome tour, telescopic video observation, telescopic spectroscopic light source detection and a thematic lecture!
