Az erőszak vége - 6. nap: Zárónap az egykori fegyver- és gépgyárban
2025-09-28T14:00:00.000Z
On September 28, we will leave Trafó and conclude The End of Violence at a special outdoor venue, Hungary's first large-scale arms factory.
Outdoor venue: Arzenál (1095 Budapest, Soroksári út 158/C)
We will start the day with a 90-minute city history walk led by Ambrus Gönczi (Ferencváros Local History Collection), during which we will learn how the history of the 9th district has been intertwined with the development of the Hungarian military industry and national defense since the end of the 19th century; from large-scale weapons manufacturing to military barracks to the national defense hospital that cared for the wounded of the 1848-49 War of Independence. The walk will take us to the site of the former Weapons and Machinery Factory (FÉG), where the program will continue with concerts and participatory performances in the Arzenál music club, converted from one of the factory halls, and the F158 martial arts center.
One of Hungary's most sought-after progressive musicians, Balázs Pándi, and his guests will tune us in to the end of violence with music in this strange and heavy-hearted venue, while Lili Raubinek and Dávid Somló, inspired by the raw space of the martial arts gym, contrast macho displays of strength and fighting with delicate stick balancing, which could also be considered a meditative community practice. In their participatory performance entitled Pressure Exercise, they seek answers to the question of how we can connect with ourselves and others through different qualities of physical contact.
Bence György Pálinkás and Tímea Török engage in dialogue with the spirit of the place in the former weapons factory workshop, drawing attention to the increased armament currently taking place across Europe, including Hungary, in their performative workshop. What do we think about the fact that, with our tacit consent and financial support, weapons are being purchased and people are being trained to kill? Is it inevitable that people will die in order to resolve a conflict that is considered irresolvable, or is it possible to fight with weapons that are not designed to kill, i.e., less lethal weapons?
