New Jazz from Finland | Pauli Lyytinen – Lehto / Korpi (FI)

Pauli Lyytinen has created a unique branch of ambient jazz with his new solo show, which is imbued with a love and respect for the natural environment. Released on We Jazz Records, Lehto / Korpi is based on compositions that emphasize textures, extended instrumental techniques and electroacoustic soundscapes: In addition to his saxophone playing, Lyytinen also uses live effects, mellotron and percussion instruments, and the material is unified by a delicate layer of field recordings – the characteristic sounds of the Finnish summer landscape, including the voices of cranes and swans. The end result is close to the concept of With Birds (Evan Parker) or Schwarzwaldfahrt (Brötzmann/Bennink), but creates a moving world from completely different sounds.
