Moving away from the sound of acoustic piano trios of the 1950s and 1960s, Oùat explores the memory of artisanal ensemble playing and its contemporary perspectives. The trio members interpret jazz in the most open-minded way possible, which prompts them to confront the sounds and movements of today and examine them thoroughly. In this way, the act of attentive listening rises to the same level as music-making that does not shy away from risks. It is no coincidence that their name can be broken down into the phrase Once upon a time: Simon Sieger, Joel Grip, and Michael Griener's constantly conversing trio strives to find the sonic meanings of "where, when, what." The trio began their career by covering the music of Duke Ellington, Hasaan Ibn Ali, Elmo Hope, Per Henrik Wallin, and Sun Ra. Their next album, released by BMC Records, will showcase the concentrated creativity with which they make the most of their ideas and the space and time they share with each other.
