We look forward to seeing you on Tuesday, January 6, at 7 p.m. at Gödör (Király utca 50.) for the 31st open, free slam poetry workshop of the Underground Slam Academy (FSA https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100071202865371), entitled "föl kéne szabadulni már" (you should get out already), which will once again be a competition of slam poetry recited from memory, organized for the umpteenth time with the Society of Fine Writers.

The chair of the jury: Kristóf Horváth, actor Bob

Members of the jury: Péter Molnár,

Music: Olgae, Dávid Pető, Soma Nagy

FSA logo: Péter Morvai

Director: Péter Molnár

Please spread the word to your friends, including via this Facebook event, where you can also register for the competition by posting.

As always, only slam poetry recited from memory is eligible for the competition, and the theme is once again a line from Attila József's poem Hazám (My Homeland): "föl kéne szabadulni már!" (we must break free!). Slam poets are free to interpret this line in any way they wish. The texts can be about Attila József's poem Hazám, political liberation, our biases, our anxieties, mechanization, habits that destroy nature, prejudices, liberation from reading slam texts, or any other kind of liberation.

You can enter the slam competition by posting in this event, with an individual or team slam, even a dance slam, or an old slam that has been recited many times before, with or without rhyme, in verse, prose, or any other form of text. The main thing is that the slam must be performed from the heart.

No props (including musical instruments) may be used in the competition. Clothing that is not used as a prop may, for example, feature writing or symbols. However, the use of a cap-spinning device to illustrate a slam conversation, for example, is considered a prop.

Most slams are in Hungarian, but they can also be performed in other languages. Usually, one or two slams are performed in English each evening, but there have also been slams in Arabic, French, Hebrew, Japanese, Spanish, Swedish, and Turkish.

During the announcement of the results at the Underground Slam Academy workshop, the chair and members of the jury comment on each slam performed, and the slammers and the audience can also add their comments. During the break, there will also be an audience vote, where everyone can vote for their favorite slam performer of the evening.

The winner of the slam competition, like all winners of the Underground Slam Academy (FSA) competition, will receive a text-shirt.com T-shirt with a line of their choice from their slam performance, courtesy of Szabolcs Szakállas. The top six finishers—not winners, but runners-up 🙂—will be able to choose from books published by Álomgyár, Corvina, Jelenkor, Napvilág, and Prae, books from the Szépírók Társasága Versopolis publishing house, and wines from the Mórocz Winery (the first-place winner chooses first). Thanks to Soraya Hegyesi, the jury can also decide on a special prize from the Franc Vintage store. What's more, a few days after the event, based on the videos of the slams, one slammer will receive a small caricature by György Kozma as a cosmic special prize.

The jury will consider any exceeding of the recommended 3 minutes and 15 seconds (4 minutes and 15 seconds in the case of team slams) (the time will be displayed visibly to the performers and the audience) when selecting the top 6 winners and the special prize winner at the end of the competition.

Schedule for the evening:

7:30: Music: Olgae, Soma Nagy, Dávid Pető

7:45: Slam competition (without commentary, with short hand pan improvisations by Dávid Pető before and after the slams)

The goals of the Underground Slam Academy are: - to encourage socially critical slams - to encourage slams to be recited from memory - to encourage slams to be recited from the heart - to encourage the depiction of love and sexual themes in slams in the context of human rights and environmental protection - to help slammers as a slam text construction workshop - to encourage the avoidance of fashionable but false clichés and self-pity, and to encourage the deepening and refinement of slams - refreshing the courage to question the truth of language and one's own thoughts, - reconciling conservative, liberal, equal opportunity, and green values with traditions worth preserving, such as the first of the 12 points of 1848, - presenting Hungarian-language slam as naturally pan-Hungarian, - connecting the search through slam with scientific research, - inspiring scientific research, - contributing to making the results of scientific research understandable and popular, - promoting meaningful collaboration between slammers, poets, writers, actors, dancers, painters, graphic artists, and other artists, researchers, and public figures, - collaborating with other civil organizations and slammers, researchers, and public figures who speak other languages.

This Underground Slam Academy (https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100071202865371) event is the 31st part of a series, with the title "We should set ourselves free at last", a line from Homeland, a poem by Attila József. Slams can connect to this theme in any way. Anyone can sign up for the competition in a post in this event, though slams must be performed by heart, no reading. If a slam is longer than 3 minutes and 15 seconds (the timer will be projected), the jury will consider it in its evaluation. Slams can be performed in any language, at least with a summary in English. The competition will start at 8 PM, the names will be pulled out from a hat and announced without comments, with short live music between the slams. The jury will provide comments at 10 PM, including for those 6 slammers whom the jury gave the first 6 places, rewarded by a book, or bottle of wine of their choice. The jury will include wonderful artists, scholars and audience members.
