Schedule
Memory is not an archive. It does not faithfully store what we have experienced—instead, it rewrites, recolors, and sometimes even loses it. Yet, memory is what provides us with continuity: it is the bridge between who we were and who we are.
Art is perhaps the only place where time is not a one-way street. A painting preserves a moment from centuries ago, yet it awakens different memories in every single viewer. A film can rearrange the past, bringing to the surface what we thought was long forgotten. And in the brushstrokes of a painting, one can find the trace of an entire life—or perhaps its absence.
But what does a work of art preserve, and what does it leave behind? Who is the one remembering: the viewer, the creator, or the work itself? And how does memory shape what we perceive today as beautiful, true, or important?
From the perspectives of three creators and three different artistic fields, we explore the nature of time and memory through the worlds of film, painting, and aesthetics.
Guests for our second event: András Rényi, Bálint Szimler, and Eszter Metzing.
Moderator: Petra Lefor.
