Less Is More

2023-10-10T18:30:00.000Z

In the autumn season 2023 we will continue our series "Free Music", where on Tuesdays we will listen to exciting national and foreign bands, occasional formations, musical experiments, collective improvisations, musicians always looking for new ways of playing. We try to present as broadly as possible the music scene, which in recent years has been defined mainly as "creative music", based mainly on improvisation, and its genre diversity, which has grown into a very exciting and colourful musical subculture of fantastic musicians (also) in Budapest.

Schedule

The very first concert of the season will feature Less Is More, a band that regularly performs here, but always wanders off to other places, playing concerts based entirely on improvisation.

The group, which has been in existence for more than 10 years, has now expanded into a quartet with Bálint Bolcsó. Their basic concept remains unchanged: total improvisation, compositions that arise from the moment, live playing. At least in concerts. Their second album "In Limbo", released in February this year, is also a very beautifully arched concert recording born from musical improvisations, but their new studio album - hopefully to be released later this year - will also feature compositions. Here, as in live performance, Bolcsó's electronics manipulate acoustic instruments - vibraphone, bass, drums - live, creating a very exciting and highly dynamic musical fabric.

Oliver Mayne - vibraphone

Bálint Bolcsó - live electronics

Ernő Hock - double bass

Zsolt Sárvári Kovács - drums

Location

Dürer Kert

Dürer Kert, which moved from the City Park to the vicinity of Kopaszi Dam, is one of the hangouts of Budapest's surviving peripheral subcultures, but it's also worth visiting if you just want a perfect garden spot. That is, starting in spring. Until then, let's keep rockin'! And after that, too.
