Kovács Linda & Budapest Jazz Orchestra
The name Linda Kovács is now a household name: jazz singer, improviser, composer and arranger. The singer has performed in almost every line-up from duo to trio, quartet to octet, and recently she has also made her mark in the big band genre with her 2018 album Sunflower, a highly acclaimed professional and audience-winning album with the Budapest Jazz Orchestra, one of the most prominent representatives of Hungarian big band music.

Sunflower contains eight of Linda Kovács Kovács's own compositions and orchestrations, and has only been performed live once before, as it is not easy to stage a big band piece. So this is a very rare opportunity to hear this great work live, and in addition to the album material, this concert will also feature new compositions.

The joint album of Linda Kovács-Budapest Jazz Orchestra has received a particularly positive response from music magazines, with Magyar Narancs giving it five stars, Jazzma.hu ranking it among the best Hungarian jazz albums of all time, and Gramofon's third place in the top ten. Sunflower is Linda Kovács's most ambitious and perhaps most sophisticated work, in which her eclectic musical world unfolds in its entirety. The musical legacy of Bob Marley, Frank Zappa and Stravinsky can be heard in the music, all of which, of course, is interwoven with the jazz tradition to create a colourful musical fabric. The evening will also feature two brand new compositions, also written by the singer, which will be among the first to be performed at the House of Music.
