Schedule

By the exhibition "I Jazz Like Dat", artist Márk Fridvalszki’s fine art and applied graphic design practices converge at a common intersection: the spirit of jazz. The selection presents, on the one hand, album covers created in recent years for jazz musicians and record labels. On the other hand, standalone silkscreen prints and panel paintings.

The material on display does not seek to fuse applied graphics and fine art, but rather juxtaposes their different modes of operation, while elevating the improvisational, collective, and time-bound logic of jazz to a common principle. The visual works translate the rhythm, spontaneity, and sensitivity of musical thinking into a visual language: collages, archival motifs, and “soulful” geometries build upon one another, just as sounds do during a jam session.

The "I Jazz Like Dat" approaches jazz not as a style, but as a way of perceiving the world—as a transcendent state of awareness in which creation is simultaneously a personal and communal experience. The exhibition venue, Pikszis, serves as a natural medium connecting the visual works with the realms of music, record culture, and everyday presence.

The members of the pop up trio performing at the opening are recognized and experienced figures in the domestic and international jazz and electronic music scenes. They will present an improvisational program connected to the world of the exhibition, built on a fusion of jazz, electronic music, hip-hop, and other genres. In addition to their musical qualities, a key factor in their selection was personal acquaintance, as well as the creative collaboration between Szabolcs Bognár and the exhibitor, which dates back several years. Some of the graphics and album covers created during this collaboration are also featured in the exhibition.

••• DJ sets before and after the concert!

On the day after the event, May 15, starting at 6 p.m., Gábor Vályi—aka DJ Shuriken, media and cultural researcher, and editor of the Qualitonsleeves Instagram page—will talk with Márk Fridvalszki about graphic design, music, and the art born from their convergence.

••• The exhibition is open: May 14–June 27, 2026.

The musical programs for the opening event are made possible with the support of the Terézváros Local Government.

Location

Pikszis Culture Point

At Pikszis we collect, consume and display all kinds of art. We have created a multi-functional, cultural community space where everyone is welcome, regardless of their prior level or connection to the arts. Our aim is to make it easier for everyone to explore different art forms by bringing together visual arts, music and more in one institution. Pikszis currently consists of a gallery, a café, a record shop, a vintage store and rooms for different workshops and events. We also have an in-house art school, the Pikszis Analogue Circle, which takes a slightly different approach to teaching people how to create.
