A musical archipelago against identity-driven drift

and the shipwreck of truth.

The INSULAE archipelago stems from a brilliant chosen kinship, born at the intersection of artistic intuition and a shared aesthetic necessity.

In July 2022, Richard Monségu—drummer, singer, and founder of the Antiquarks collective—and Julien Lachal—composer, experimentalist, and sound architect of sensitive realms—participated in an international residency at Babel Camp (Hungary), an open-air creative laboratory that brings together artists from all over the world. There they met Luca Kézdy, the brilliantly sensitive Hungarian violin virtuoso. A few months later, Marta Caldara, the Italian pianist and marimba player, also joined them.

Four musicians—two men and two women—came together to form an extraordinary European quartet with a hybrid sound and a rich, vivid imagination: INSULAE.

INSULAE presents itself as a transnational musical creation that fosters a poetic dialogue among four French, Hungarian, and Italian artists at the intersection of contemporary jazz, classical music, reimagined folk traditions, and sound experimentation. The project is grounded in artistic, political, and symbolic explorations,

evoking mythological references (Atlantis, sunken islands), contemporary issues (the rise of nationalism, disinformation, identity-based isolation), and the poetics of resistance.
