The year is 1971, in the United States, during the presidency of Richard Nixon, who was embroiled in a scandal, and the hippie era. Raoul Duke, a sports reporter, is assigned to cover a motorcycle race held in the Nevada desert. He sets off with his friend, the lawyer Dr. Gonzo, but their destination is not the desert—it is Las Vegas, the city of gambling. Armed with every conceivable type of drug and alcohol, the two men embark on an adventure to find the American Dream.
