Adam, a neo-Nazi, is sentenced to 12 weeks of community service. He must serve his sentence in the community of Ivan, a kind-hearted priest. The group—made up entirely of eccentric characters—looks on with curiosity at the newcomer, whose intentions are subversive: he targets the pride of the rectory garden, the apple tree, intending to bake an apple cake. Yet, despite Adam's determination, the tree's fruit falls prey to birds and worms, and it is even struck by lightning. Ivan believes the Devil is toying with them, whereas Adam sees it all as God's doing—suggesting that perhaps evil does not even exist.
