Glam rock #2.: Queen (UK, 70s-80s)

In 2022, a regular monthly program was launched at the MZH Multimedia Library and Club under the title: Rock and Roll Free University. The Rock and Roll Free University presents the most important processes and performers in international pop history. It is based on the idea that rock and roll, somewhat simplified, is the result of a peculiar cultural-historical marriage: when the musical tradition of black slaves brought from Africa (blues) and that of white settlers emigrating from Europe (country) met and continuously merged with each other on a third continent, in America. Moreover, all this took place in a radically transforming society following technological development and the associated industrialization and urbanization. In the tenth season of this series (autumn 2026), the focus will be on glam rock sprouting in the United Kingdom (David Bowie, Queen, Slade, Roxy Music) and its American representatives (Alice Cooper, Kiss).
