THE SONG OF THE SEA

(Song of the Sea | in original language with Hungarian subtitles)

color, subtitled, Danish-Belgian-Luxembourgish-French-Irish animated film, 93', 2014

directed by Tomm Moore

***Not recommended for children under 6.***

Song of the Sea is a wonderful tale about Ben and his little sister, Saoirse, who is the last of the seal fairies. The two siblings embark on an adventurous journey in pursuit of an ancient, magical legend to free the fairies and protect the spirit world. The film draws inspiration from Irish folklore: the mythological seal fairies live as seals in the sea but transform into humans on land.

Irish director Tomm Moore’s (The Secret of Kells, Wolfwalkers) animated film was nominated for an Oscar in 2015 in the Best Animated Feature category, and composer Bruno Coulais received a César nomination. That same year, among numerous other awards, the film won the European Film Award for Best Animated Film, as well as the Audience Award at the Kecskemét Animation Film Festival.

Since its 2015 premiere in Hungary, *The Song of the Sea* has been the subject of unflagging enthusiasm and interest, so—by popular demand—it is returning to theaters nationwide!
