The first Hungarian rock opera film offers a unique take on the founding of the Hungarian state and the story of King István and the pagan Koppány. The rock opera, set to music by Levente Szörényi and János Bródy, premiered in 1983 at Királydomb to a resounding success, featuring the era’s biggest rock stars. The film is an animated adaptation of that performance, rendered with distinctive pop-art effects, where even the editing itself moves to the rhythm of wild rock.
The audience for *István, the King* continues to grow; the play has since been performed countless times, but nothing can compare to the cult status of its premiere.

In January 2016, the 108-year-old Bem Cinema will reopen its doors to the public, in a new way never seen before in Hungary: as a cinema of cult and classic films (no harm!), or as the educated French say (if you know your English): as a "repertory cinema".
