As surprising as it may seem, Cimbaliband—formed in 2006—manages to bring something special and fresh to the Hungarian world music scene every year!

The music on the band’s eleven studio albums blends the Eastern European way of life with folk music and modern musical styles beloved by audiences. The band members have a strong background in folk music, so in Cimbaliband’s “witch’s kitchen,” the dishes are prepared using authentic music drawn from their roots. These musical delicacies are served to us with the cimbalom—a truly unique instrument—forming the foundation of the songs, spiced with a touch of jazz, Latin music, and Balkan rhythms.

It’s no coincidence that music magazines refer to Gödöllő-born Balázs Unger as the “Chuck Berry of the cimbalom”! With his fast “riffs,” he moves and directs the band in a variety of styles from behind the true Hungarian acoustic “mixing console.” It is the combination of all these elements that makes the original Eastern European cimbalom rock ’n’ roll a complete experience for the listener!

He masterfully blends his authentic folk music collections with his life-affirming compositions, which led to the following lines appearing in the pages of Magyar Nemzet: the band members “have proven that authentic folk music can be trendy, too.”
