Berka
The foundation of Berka’s concert repertoire comes from the band’s 20 years of experience in the dance house tradition.
Describing their style as Progressive Folk, the group blends their rich collection of traditional melodies with a wide range of musical influences from urban musicianship and instrumentation. As a result, melodies from Moldavia, Somogy, and Gyimes—along with tunes lifted from the shadows of medieval taverns or Csángó poets’ verses—are reimagined in a unique and distinctive sound world.
For their work, the band received the Fonó Award in 2022 in the category of the best dance house of the past 25 years, and in 2023 they were awarded the Táncház Érme (Dance House Medal).
Martenica Ensemble
The Martenica Ensemble offers an insight into the richly diverse world of Bulgarian folk music and dance, guiding audiences through a colourful mix of regional musical dialects. The rhythmic diversity meets the distinctly Eastern-tinged melodic world, performed on some of the most characteristic folk instruments of the Balkans.
The dances are taught by members of the Martenica Ensemble, a group active for over 40 years, helping participants master the characteristic steps and style of traditional horo and rachenitsa dances.
