“Two decades in the nightlife scene: building things from scratch, then sometimes nearly dying trying to keep them together—and ourselves in the process.”
On November 11, SURFALONE’s second album, VÁKUUM, arrives as the culmination of many years of creative and personal turmoil. To mark the occasion, music, visual art, self-discovery, and Budapest’s alternative cultural scene will come together for one evening.
SURFALONE is the more personal, experimental musical project of László Papp, also known as Subotage. As a long-time active participant in the Hungarian electronic music scene, he has been involved over the past two decades in building communities and cultural initiatives such as NVC, the Madách Square Center, Turbina, and the INOTA Festival.

Schedule
VÁKUUM marks both the conclusion of a massive life cycle and a return to basics.
Through 10 original songs and 10 remixes, it takes listeners on a twenty-year inner journey—from childhood memories through adult traumas, loves, addictions, and losses, all the way to letting go and starting anew.
The songs were born in different periods and places: in the thick of a Budapest night, in the South American desert, deep in the Amazon, or even decades earlier, from the thoughts of a seventeen-year-old boy.
From these fragments emerges a personal—yet familiar to many—story about the inner circles to which we return time and again, and about how, one day, we might finally step out of them.
⫸ THIS EVENING IS MORE THAN JUST A TRADITIONAL RECORD LISTENING SESSION.
In addition to the musical and visual experience, we’re also preparing an interactive creative workshop inspired by art therapy, which focuses on the connection between music, childhood memories, and self-expression.
It’s an opportunity to turn our attention inward for a moment and, through creation, connect with feelings that aren’t always easy to put into words. Participation is voluntary and requires no prior artistic experience.
As part of the evening, we’ll also premiere the new music video for the album, which visually extends the emotional and conceptual world of VÁKUUM.
⫸ THE CHOICE OF VENUE IS NO COINCIDENCE.
MonoKultur on Bródy Sándor Street is a meeting place for records, underground electronic music, and superb cocktails. It’s an inclusive environment where carefully curated music, communal experiences, and creative encounters all find a home.
For the VÁKUUM showcase, we’ve thus found not only a venue but also a cultural environment that aligns with its spirit. In addition to listening to music and creating together, there will be space for conversations over drinks, rekindling old friendships, and forging new connections.
We’d like this evening to be not just about music, but also about the people who create, shape, listen to, and reflect on Budapest’s alternative cultural scene.
Let’s meet on November 11 at MonoKultur.
