Since its inception, the House of Music has considered it its mission to showcase the musical life of rural Hungarian towns. The next venue for the City in the House series is Sopron. The festival, which showcases the musical life of Hungary’s most loyal city, will take place in the spirit of the diversity characteristic of the House, and is organized jointly by the House of Music and the city of Sopron. On the first day of the festival, Saturday, the Petőfi Band—the orchestra of the artists at the Petőfi Theater in Sopron—will make its debut, and Sonny, a native of Sopron, will perform with his band, Sonny and His Wild Cows, evoking 1940s and 1950s America with rockabilly and rhythm and blues.

On Sunday, the Fajkusz Banda, Sopron’s renowned folk band, will perform. Meanwhile, at the Club Library, there will be a record-spinning session featuring recordings by the Sopron Franz Liszt Symphony Orchestra, including works by Sopron composers (József Soproni, Jenő Takács, Sándor Szokolay), as well as a pop-up exhibition of Sándor Szokolay’s tableaux.
