Schedule

The German bass Georg Zeppenfeld originally trained as a music and vocal teacher, but only then began his studies as a private singer. By his own admission, it was not easy for him or his voice teacher, because the Westphalian dialect is not necessarily suited to opera singing. But their work together paid off, and Zeppenfeld now performs in the greatest roles. After German opera houses, he is a regular guest on the most famous stages in Europe, including Vienna, Stockholm, Prague, Milan, London, Paris and Geneva, but he has also long been in demand overseas in San Francisco, New York and Chicago. He is a regular at the prestigious Glyndebourne and Salzburg festivals and has sung Wagner's bass roles at the Bayreuth Festival for a decade and a half. In addition to the German composer's works, he is most often seen in Italian Romantic music, especially Verdi, but his repertoire also includes operas by Musorgsky, Dvořák and Debussy. The singer has received numerous awards, most recently the Austrian Musical Theatre Prize in 2022 for his portrayal of Gurnemanz in the Vienna State Opera's production of Parsifal. As a concert singer, his work focuses on the great oratorios of Bach, Handel, Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven, but he also regularly gives recitals. In Budapest and at the Hungarian State Opera House, she will perform in the latter capacity in the series "Strains with piano".
