Sailor Ripley has just been released from prison. She meets her lover, Lulu, and together they escape from her religious fanatic mother, Marietta, who opposes their relationship. The young men set off for New Orleans.
Little do they know that on their trail is a private detective hired by their mother, Farragut, whose job it is to thwart their plans. But Marietta wants to be sure, so she sends a ruthless drug dealer after them with the same assignment.
Sailor and Lulu meet increasingly strange people along the way...
