Sanyi (Szabolcs Thuróczy) is a puppet artist and alcoholic. Pali (Tamás Polgár) is an elevator mechanic and alcoholic. Together they search for their friend Tomi, who has already missed several AA meetings. They try to stay sober, which is not easy in a country where drinking is widely accepted as a daily practice. Sani's wife and daughter left him five years ago because of his addiction, and since then he has started a new life and stopped drinking, while Pali needs a little push to drink again. Tommy probably doesn't even need that much. The two friends race against time on the streets of Budapest to find and rescue Toti.

Attila Till's new film, partly inspired by his own experiences, is as light, dynamic and disturbingly funny as his previous directorial success, With a Clear Heart. And What About Tommy? is at the same time a vision of Hungary today, a documentary and a discussion piece. It's a missing piece that gives us an insight into the lives of addicts who can offer each other important support in the most difficult moments.

And what about Tommy? is a moving and gripping story that explores themes of friendship, perseverance and the healing power of community, while offering a glimpse into the everyday challenges of an alcohol-saturated world. The film was privately produced and financed by the Oscar-winning producers of Saul's Son.

Bem Cinema

In January 2016, the 108-year-old Bem Cinema will reopen its doors to the public, in a new way never seen before in Hungary: as a cinema of cult and classic films (no harm!), or as the educated French say (if you know your English): as a "repertory cinema".
