What is Trafó’s Witch Club?

The Witch Club is a pop-up creative circle and knowledge-sharing, self-development platform for women*, organised by Trafó’s outreach programme Thought Generator and connected to the thematic focuses of the current season. During each occasion, we form a temporary community, get to know one another and the aspects of the focus that matter most to us, and learn practical skills from invited experts. Over the course of the season, you can join the Witch Club on four occasions.

Schedule

The programme is open to all people who identify as women, regardless of age, prior experience, sexual orientation, background, or social status.

Part of Trafó’s transdisciplinary focus work-free-time.

Is something still work if it doesn’t produce money? Where do we learn the kinds of knowledge that are not taught in institutions, yet are essential for survival?

In March, the Witch Club steps out of the theatre and invites participants to a special hiking workshop. We leave the city behind to spend a whole day in nature, collectively reflecting on the artificially constructed boundary between work and leisure. Moving through the forest, we come together for an anti-productive work day to share skills, learn from one another and examine forms of invisible labour—often tied to women’s experiences—while trying out activities traditionally labelled as masculine.

During the hike:

we learn survival techniques and woodland skills from a scout leader,

identify mushrooms and plants with the guidance of a biologist,

and use dramatic tools to collectively reflect on invisible women’s labour, care work, forms of expertise dismissed as “hobbies,” and on when rest itself turns into a task.

This day is not about productivity, but about nature, collective learning, and women’s communities.

Dates: 14 and 22 March

Meeting point: 11:00 – Normafa Visitor Centre

End: 16:00 – Normafa Visitor Centre

From here, the group will return together to Trafó, where participants can join the other programmes of the work–leisure focus.

Maximum number of participants: 25 people/hike.

The language of the program is Hungarian, but we provide English translation on request. Please write us a message in case you’d like to join as a non-Hungarian speaker: [email protected]
