Baxter Dury
One of the most diverse and reliable singer-songwriters of the past two decades, Baxter Dury, who crossed indie-pop with synth-funk and neo-soul, drew a line in 2021, closing the gap in his career with a best-of album and a biographical tear, and opening a new chapter with his seventh solo album, released in the summer of 2023. This self-reflective album, I Thought I Was Better Than You, will be the first time Dury, whose father Ian Dury was also a rock star, will tour Hungary - Baxter will perform for a Hungarian audience at the House of Music on 20 April 2024.

Schedule
Baxter Dury released his first full-length album in 2002, at the age of thirty, so it's no wonder he came up with a mature, well-crafted album. No wonder he waited so long to make his debut, given his troubled childhood and youth. Those familiar with his father, the songwriter-producer Ian Dury, who arrived with punk in the late seventies, and his revolutionary songs Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll and Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick, will know that Baxter was already on the cover of his father's legendary debut album New Boots And Panties! !, 1977), and those who have seen Ian's biopic will know that Baxter had a tough childhood, but also inherited some good things from his father, such as the ability never to bargain. His great albums, which came every few years in the first two decades of the 21st century, earned him critical and popular acclaim, but after a career break in 2021, he has now faced the burden of a famous father for the first time.
Baxter has done so with music that for the first time reflects more deeply on the hip-hop influence of his youth, replacing the synth-funk sound of his earlier days with neo-soul arrangements, a more organic sound, and still sparkling, funny lyrics. Baxter is undoubtedly a self-defining musician in his own right, now loosely adventuring into more abstract musical ideas and constantly innovating his own storytelling style. Frank Ocean and Tyler the Creator have influenced his latest songs, and he's a huge influence on his audience, it would be a mistake not to experience it live. Oh, and by the way, the Dury family has Hungarian blood in it, his wife (and mother of his child) is the granddaughter of film director Zoltán Korda!
