*Pelikan Blue* is the first feature-length animated film to evoke Hungary’s recent history using dry humor and documentary techniques.
Crafted with artistic sophistication, the film employs a style reminiscent of American indie cinema. The intoxicating sense of freedom of the late 1980s and early 1990s—and the atmosphere of anticipation surrounding the regime change—come to life in László Csáki’s animation, characterized by dry humor and a striking, distinctive visual style.
For years, the director conducted interviews with individuals whose lives were profoundly altered by international travel undertaken using forged train tickets—tickets created with "Pelikan Blue" carbon paper.
The film is a genuine nostalgia trip, featuring period music such as "Induljon a banzáj!" by Bonanza Banzai, "Lidocain" by Hiperkarma, and "Húsrágó hídverő" by Kispál és a Borz.
