TECHNO SYMPOSIUM - SPACES OF FREEDOM

Queer perspectives on electronic music, freedom and belonging.

On the occasion of Budapest Pride, this special edition of Techno Symposium brings together artists, organizers and community builders from Budapest and beyond for an open conversation on freedom, belonging and the spaces we create together through electronic music.

Schedule

Rave culture and queer culture have long shared spaces, histories and experiences. Through the voices gathered around the table, this Symposium explores freedom, belonging and connection, and the role music can play in creating spaces where people can feel welcome, safe and free.

The conversation — as always moderated by Bencsama — will bring together artist-activists Lau and Kali; artists, promoters and community builders such as Viktor Molnár (Dirty Cash) and Germán Henao (Rush); curator and Magic Mirror programmer Zsorzs Ujvári-Pintér; and two international guests, Tamboi (UK) from Glasgow Autonomous Space & Absolutely Flawless community sound system and Faust DJ (RO), founder of the Romanian collective sqweez.community.

This edition is curated by Budapest Art Symposium in collaboration with Radish Radio and Tuna.

At 9pm, the conversation continues through music. Atashi (GEO) will take over the booth until 10pm, followed by Faust DJ (RO) until midnight.

Joining the evening will also be Queer Trécs, a podcast and community platform whose ongoing conversations around queer lives, identity and belonging offer a valuable perspective on many of the themes explored during the Symposium.

Location

TUNA

Dear people of Turbina!

Hopefully you’ve already heard, but we’re confirming it here too: for the summer season, we’re setting up on the banks of our most beautiful river as well. Turbina will of course stay and keep spinning on Vajdahunyad Street, but its little sibling, TUNA, can be visited every day beneath Vigadó Square (geolocation here), when the embankment road is closed to traffic.

This means we’re waiting for you on the Pest side of the Danube bank, under the tram tracks – on weekdays between 7 PM and midnight, and on weekends between 2 PM and midnight – yay!

Here’s what you’re in for if you come:

  1. Inside: a cool lounge area, sofas, colorful lights, a bar
  2. Outside: seating perfect for soaking up some vitamin D
  3. The Danube practically flowing right under your feet
  4. A breathtaking view of the Buda Castle, the Citadella, and the Chain Bridge
  5. Exhibitions during the day, DJ sets and small concerts in the evenings
