Stargate: Sky, mountain music... Herschel concert! - 08.29.
This year, Herschel's symphonies will once again resound beneath the most beautiful star clusters, as classical music meets the starry sky. Our concert pays tribute to the astronomical and musical work of William Herschel, the famous 18th-century astronomer who discovered Uranus. As sunset approaches, Herschel's symphonies come to life in the ancient park, at the foot of the illuminated, classicist dome, worthy harbingers of the heavenly spheres of the twilight starry sky!

Schedule
Stargate: During our major astronomical event, visitors can explore the Svábhegy Observatory program venues freely and at their own pace. It is worth buying tickets online in advance, but tickets can also be purchased on site.
Programs:
Daytime astronomy:
Sun observation: with our solar telescopes, we will observe groups of dark sunspots, fountain-like solar flares, and bright, lace-like solar prominences in different colors.
Moon: we will admire the mysterious seas of the waxing crescent moon and the faint craters emerging on the rising side in the daytime sky at several locations.
Interactive astronomy programs:
Meteorite observation - hold stones from space in your hands!
Spectrum Zone - light experiments in all colors of the rainbow
Planet Sniffing Laboratory - get ready for some serious sniffing!
Comet Cooking - we cook out the smoking comet core
Bubble Universe - giant colorful bubbles and their astronomical connection
Space-Time Trampoline - put the planets into orbit around the Sun!
Telescope Tricks - we take it apart, cut it in half, look inside, focus it...
Historical Walk - exciting anecdotes from astronomers over the past hundred years
Herschel concert:
Between 8 and 9 p.m., Herschel's symphonies will resound in the twilight sky, performed by the Vass Lajos Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Bence Uzsaly. The concert will be held on the observatory's starry lawn, so it is worth bringing a blanket or foam mat to sit on.
Night-time telescope observation:
Open clusters and globular clusters sparkling with stars: Captain Hook's Cluster, Wild Duck Cluster, Shoulder Blade, Twin Cluster, Owl Cluster, M13 and M15 globular clusters.
The most beautiful gas nebula in the Summer Milky Way: Cygnus Nebula
Cosmic gas bubbles of planetary nebulae: Ring Nebula, Blinking Nebula
Our neighboring galaxy, the Andromeda Nebula
The razor-thin ring of Saturn rising.
Laser star tour among the constellations of the late summer sky!
In case of cloudy weather: Our Stargate event will take place even in cloudy weather, as our interactive program venues are always accessible. In cloudy weather, instead of observing celestial bodies through telescopes, we will offer a dome tour, video observation through telescopes, and observation of light sources through spectroscopic telescopes!
Rainy day: In case of rain, the concert and event will be canceled. In this case, we will hold the event on Friday, September 5, with the same program. We will send out a notification email 24 hours before the start of the event.
