about the awards:
The question why the hell there is no proper national competition for music videos in Hungary was first asked by the organisers in 2015.
Then, for two years, they held the event at the Toldi Cinema in Budapest. It was a two-day, marathon clip-viewing folk festival. After a one-year hiatus, the third edition was held at Anker't, and then, from 2019, annually at the Aquarium: with screenings, concerts, performances, round-table discussions, 30 award winners and a full house.
The independent jury, which changes every year, is made up of journalists, filmmakers and music professionals. But one prize is always voted for by the public. A good number of the previous up-and-coming winners have since gone on to become film, advertising or creative professionals from Los Angeles to Subotica.
We're now down to seven, but the goal hasn't changed: give home-grown music videos a platform, make a good video, let us see them on the big screen for once!
Akvárium
As they describe themselves, it is Budapest's most frequented venue, which is also multifunctional. Akvárium is great for award ceremonies, afternoon coffees and, most importantly, concerts, thanks to the well-picked, cross-genre selection.
